In an article that was published last week involving transgender student rights it was said that the Supreme Court would be reviewing the case Gavin Grimm vs. the Gloucester County School Board. This case would have decided whether or not transgender students could use the bathroom of their preferred gender. The Supreme Court would have heard the case later this month. It has just been reported that they will no longer hear the case and a Virginia lower court will. This court in Virginia will be tasked to decide whether or not Title IX, a federal law that protects students from gender discrimination, applies to transgender students. This court has previously ruled in Grimm’s favor last year but that was under a different presidential administration. Previously, President Barack Obama was in favor of transgender bathroom rights and currently, President Donald Trump has spoken against these rights. It is not yet known when the Virginia court will revisit the case.
