The Record Exchange on the corner of North Market and West Second Street caught fire on Aug. 24. It was completely ruined. The fire started on the second floor and not only made its way down to the record store but to the other store next door, Tiara Day. Currently, the start of the fire is unknown but it did start on the second floor, the store mainly had water damage. “It’s a total devastating loss,” the owner Peck stated.

In the evening of Monday Aug 29, an online GoFundMe supported The Record Exchange and Tiara day and raised more than $19,000.  Peck came to Fredrick in 2009 to open her store; she estimated that she had been collecting different pieces for about 25 years. The owner Peck claimed, “I worked two jobs to get it going,” continuing to say, “I’ve never not wanted to go to work.” Peck also said “It’s been unbelievable the amount of people [who] have reached out to me.” On Sunday, staff and dozens of volunteers helped clean out the store, they lost everything to water damage. The Record Exchange will be seeking a new location and the business, thanks everybody for their help.
