The Great Frederick Fair is an event many people look forward to every year. This last week the Great Frederick Fair made its return gaining around 230,000 visitors during the nine day event. The fair is known for its petting zoo, food and most importantly its rides. The fair has a variety of different rides for both children and adults, but the top three rides are The Tornado, Starship and The Beast.
The Tornado:
Having different rides at the fair means that there are definite fan favorites amongst the different options, though hands down the best ride at the Frederick Fair is The Tornado. Each section on the ride has two seats with two people per seat, meaning bigger friend groups are less separated. The ride is tilted at an angle, when it starts it slowly begins to spin before picking up speed continuously spinning at an angle. The ride is simple, yet fun. The theme of the ride is also what makes it so great. Despite being called The Tornado, the art displayed on the back of the ride is ocean themed, showing the chaos of The Tornado which perfectly matches the chaos of the ride.
The Starship:
The Starship is a space themed gravitational ride that’s shaped like a flying saucer. You wait in line to enter the spaceship and stand against the wall. The ride itself spins fast enough to accelerate the gravitational pull, pushing you against the wall. It’s an intense ride that typically makes you feel dizzy afterwards, but it’s an amazing ride nonetheless. It’s a far different experience from other fair rides that makes it such an amazing ride.
The Beast:
The Beast is separated into four different sections with four different seats allowing 16 people in total to ride at once. The ride moves quickly, swinging the passengers back and forth. The ride gradually swings higher and higher up, eventually swinging them upside down. While swinging back and forth, the ride is also spinning around. The spinning of the ride is what makes it so intense and exciting. When asked why the Beast was his favorite ride, Aether Smith, a senior at Tuscarora High School answered, “Because you go upside down.” The intensity of the ride might not be for everyone, but it is called The Beast for a reason.
The Great Frederick Fair has sadly left for the year, but will come back for the fall next year. The Tornado, Starship and Beast are just three of the many different rides the fair has to offer. Next year when the fair is in town make sure to enjoy your experience to the fullest and check out the different rides.
