The Tuscarora Boy Soccer team (5-0-0) have big expectations to make a deep playoff run this season as the team has started the regular season undefeated and have been described by the coach as “special.”
The team who had a rough preseason record of 0-2-2 is currently undefeated throughout their first five regular season games with wins against Howard High School, Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, Middletown High School, Brunswick High School and Martinsburg High School (WV) respectively. When asked how the team dealt with tough results in preseason, Captain Kobe Nguyen said “I think what was important was having a committed group of guys that are willing to do anything for each other on and off the field during rough time periods.” Captain Tyler Riggs when asked the same thing said “At the end of the day preseason games don’t necessarily matter as much as people make it out to. Obviously we want to win every single game we play but that’s not how the game works.” The Titans seemed to brush the tough results off and focus on the good that came out of it, ensuring not to get in their heads too much about the results.
This definitely showed through the start of the regular season as the boys would go on to win five straight. When asked how the team will look to continue with the hot start and stretch this success through the rest of the season Kobe Nguyen said “ We will take it game by game not looking for perfection but strengthening our squad for when it matters most.” Tyler Riggs touched up on this by saying “The start of the regular season has definitely been a great way to kick start us off and build solid momentum and rhythm to the way we play. We are really starting to click.”
As mentioned before, Coach Todd Knepper described this team as “Special.” The last time we saw something truly special from the Titans was in 2022 when the team won a Maryland State Title with a record of 19-1-0. When questioned on how the team aims to repeat this success Tyler Riggs answered “ We just have to put our heads down and work, we know we are the only people that control if we win a state championship. I feel like we definitely have that feeling that we could or that we could get close right now, it’s only a matter of if we work as a team.” “We can beat teams by 2-3 goals. It’s just a matter of when and how we do” Kobe Nguyen added.
As students and fans of the program there seems like a lot to expect from the team. “Students and fans can expect intense high energy soccer, we are a very hard working team who could definitely make a playoff push” Said Tyler Riggs. Kobe Nguyen had a similar response saying “ Students and fans can expect us to fight and leave everything on the field. That ties up to our motto “Give All, Gain All”. We’re a good group of guys and we all know what we are capable of and what’s to come.” The future looks bright for the currently undefeated team as they seek to continue their success through the rest of the season and playoffs. Players, coaches, students and fans will continue to show out for each other and for their school in hopes to win it all.
