Game Night is a recently released film starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams. The film is categorized as Mystery/Crime, however, I would consider it be in the comedy genre. Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams play Max and Annie, a competitive couple who bonded over their desire to win. Every week, Max and Annie host a game night with Ryan (Billy Magnussen), Sarah (Sharon Horgan), Kevin (Lamorne Morris) and Michelle (Kylie Bunbury). Max’s brother, Brooks (Kyle Chandler) offers to host game name this week. Brooks hired a company to facilitate a murder mystery party for game night. When Brooks is kidnapped, the group thinks this is all apart of the game, however, it turns out game night isn’t such a game after all. Once the group realizes that Brook’s kidnapping wasn’t staged, they try to help him get out of the mess he has gotten himself in. As the night continues, the circumstances the group  find themselves in only get more intense. I don’t want to spoil the ending, but I will say there is a turn of events at the end. Interestingly, the last scene of the film insinuates there could be a sequel. However, I don’t think a sequel would make sense for this movie because I think the plot would end up being too similar to the original film.

IMDb rates Game Night a 7.4/10 while Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 82%. Overall, the movie was highly rated and the reviews were positive. Some recurring opinions I saw in the reviews were the film is light hearted and humorous although, some moments are surprisingly gory. In my opinion, I would rate the film an 8/10. There were only a few gory moments so I wouldn’t let that deter you from seeing the movie. I thought a lot of the funny moments were conversations between Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams although, the supporting actors did a good job too. The film was funny however, there were moments where the humor was corny. I would recommend this movie, and normally I’d say it’s worth spending the money to see it in theaters but the movie has been in out since the end of February, so at this point I suggest waiting until it’s rentable because it shouldn’t be too long.
