Spotlight: Academic Team

Mia Egerman, Editor in Chief

This week, the spotlight is on the Academic Team. The Academic Team has been around since the beginning of Tuscarora with the current version being supervised by Ms. Nickles. The Titans practice for weekly competitions throughout the months of January and February and compete against other schools from FCPS at Frederick High. In it’s 37th year, the county-wide Academic Tournament is the ultimate test of knowledge and recall. The season has already begun, but be sure not to miss each week’s Friday match, free of admission, and support your team!

Senior Captain Sai Pingali feels strongly about the competition aspect of the tournament. He says, “it’s the best of the best [students] that Frederick has to offer.” His teammate, and fellow Captain, Tom Xie says he has a “thirst for knowledge.” They believe it’s the losing itself that makes them work harder, allowing them to study even more and work towards a shared goal of beating Urbana. Ultimately, winning a match is the goal but nevertheless, the passion for insight and retention thrives.

If you’re interested in joining Tuscarora’s Academic Team, practices are held in room B201 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30, putting new competitors to the test in the 2018-19 school year. Do you have what it takes?
