Earlier this week I attended and photographed a tennis match for the first time. Not only was this the first tennis match I’ve been present at, it was the first unified sporting event I’ve attended. Unified sports is a more recently added program at Tuscarora where a wide range of athletes participate, including those who are mentally or physically disabled. During the match I witnessed students manage to play competitively and with purpose, while still having fun with their teammates. But above all I was impressed by the level of sportsmanship shown by the athletes on both sides of the court. Points were assigned honestly, and at the end of the match there were handshakes all around. What follows are the photographs of our unified tennis team competing against Catoctin high school.
