We all know how new year resolutions go, they don’t. We quit within the first month and say we will do better the next year. I am here to give you some tips so that you stick to what you say you will do. The first thing to do is realize that the start of a year, month, or week should not be an excuse for you to procrastinate. If you truly want to do something, get up and do it without waiting for a day to allow you to.

Making a plan or list to get things done is a good start to be consistent in whatever your goal is. Whether it is working out, drinking more water, or doing better in school there is always a way to plan it out. Another way to stick to your plan is, add another person in the resolution with you. Most likely one of your friends would be willing to reach the goal with you. You can make it a bet or just hold each other accountable for it.

Mistakes are normal and you cannot just give up when you make one. If you miss a day of working out or you get a bad test grade, just learn from it. When you lack motivation or get mad at the mistake you made, remember why you started it in the first place. Keep the past in the past and do not let it bring you down.

We all say “new year, new me” but are you really going to change? That is up to you and you are the only person that can make those changes for yourself. This whole thing may sound cheesy, but when you tell yourself you can do it and you find a way to stay committed; you will see the change you want.
