Hello again, Titans!

We’re back again this week with another Voices of Tuscarora installment. Halloween is just around the corner, next Tuesday, actually, so what better a time to get the students’ opinions on How Old is Too Old to go Trick or Treating? I went around and asked a plethora of students about their feelings on this topic. The responses were varied, and some were rather obscure, but, ultimately, it gave me a good idea of what the students felt.

While many of the students felt that the end of someone’s middle school years are a good time to stop, many did not feel this way. Some felt that 15 years should be the cut off; some felt that you can go no matter how old you are as long as you dress up; some felt that you’re too old past high school, but if you take some smaller kids and then take their candy, then it would be ok. The responses did vary, and I asked a few students who obliged why they felt the way they did. Here’s what they have to say.

Katherine Fetting – Junior

“I think people past 15 should not go trick-or-treating. It’s weird, and it’s, really, meant for little kids. I can’t imagine they’d want high schoolers taking their candy from them. If you want to go past high school, get some little kids from your neighborhood and take them around and then get some candy out of it that way. Don’t just go door to door as a high school student asking for candy.”

Kaylen Wallen – Senior

“I think 17 should be the cut off for trick-or-treating. I say this because, honestly, people start wearing the Sexy Mouse and Sexy Deer costumes right around now. If you’re going to do that, wear it to a party and not out around town. No one wants to see you in that, sweetie.”

Jarret Watson – Sophomore

“13 should be the cutoff for actual trick-or-treating. However, if you want to still go out and have fun, go scare kids, but still make sure to dress up. Who knows, you might get some of the candy they drop.”

For those students who said that you’re never too old to go trick-or-treating, they gave good reason. If you dress up and do a decent impression of what you’re dressing up as, then you should receive something, especially if you’re going door to door asking for candy, purposefully putting yourself out in the spotlight. Halloween shouldn’t be limited to small kids who are screeching on the streets and carting their parents around, let everyone participate in the fun! Just try to keep it respectable and remember there’s a bunch of small children around you!!!
