While many students were dancing the night away on the 14th, students in marching band and color guard began their night by competing against other bands. Out of the rest of the competition, they placed second, only being bested by Liberty High’s marching band. The competition took all day Saturday with rehearsals beginning at 9am – 12pm, the warm-ups starting at 3pm once they had arrived at Musselman, and finally performing at 4:45pm. If students from band were to attend homecoming as well, then, they would have left at 5pm while the other students will stay and continue to watch the other performances.

Overall, the band’s show was visually and musically impressive- even improving upon their performance since their last competition. They performed as one unit, wonderfully synchronized as they played out this year’s theme of ‘Story Teller’. Their show contained three works of music that helped to portray this year’s theme, those three works of music being: Of Sailors and Whales by Francis McBeth, The Isle of Calypso by Robert W. Smith, and, the Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. Each of these works telling their own story or are a piece of a larger story; however, when put together create a beautiful collaboration all on its own.

Many members of the band were satisfied with their show, including their band director, Mr. Karos. There will be plenty more competitions to come and without any doubt, the band and color guard will continue to improve and evolve. They will continue to compete up to November, until then, we wish them the best of luck!

     Again, congratulations, Titans!
