Prom is just around the corner and a lot of seniors are getting heads over heels with it. Prom is an exciting night for teenagers where they put on fancy-dress, dance to songs and is thrown every year in most US and Canadian high schools. How prom is a strong tradition here in the country is not the same for most African countries. Most African countries have nothing like prom. Now the question is, is prom worth it?

Everyone has different opinions towards prom. Prom night is really known as a special night to end your four years of high school memories, and is also known to be a special night of dance. As I always do, going to ask every titan what they have to say is what I did. Ally Troy a senior was really excited to give a yes to the question if prom was worth it. According to her she was going to attend this year’s prom and you could see all the magical smiles she had when she said she was. You could give a 100% to it that she has been waiting for this all this while and is finally here. She says “It is a night of memory that I would not want to miss out on. Prom is worth the money but should cost less.” When asked how much she was going to spend on prom she said, “I am spending about 600.”  Last of it she states, “I do not think it is worth all the money and stress and going over the top,It is just to have fun. Prom is seniors last big event before graduation/ high school ending.” It was fun having an interview with Ally and I wish you all the best Ally.

Some people say, “Life may not be the party hoped for, but while we’re here we should dance.” But some look at the expenses of prom and decide to ask if they should go or not. According to Seibah Sulemana prom is not worth it and he is not even thinking of attending this year’s prom even though is going to be his last high school dance. He goes on to say, “I think it’s a waste of time and money. And is not worth the money and anxieties. I think prom is such a strong school tradition all across the country because some people think it’s a good way to end a high school year.” Well spoken but kind of sad to miss your last high school dance which you can never recover.

Prom has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. People get to meet their life partners on the night of prom, others gets to remember all the bad times they have been through throughout their time in high school, others also find that night a great night to spend with their friends. Steven Cook one of our famous seniors warmly accepted to be interviewed. This is what he had to say, “ Prom is worth it and I’m definitely going to attend this year’s prom. I would spend between$200-$250. But I think is worth the cost and anxieties because it’s one of the last fun things you will do with your friends from high school. Prom is such a strong school tradition because it’s like saying goodbye to the seniors.”

A night for most girls to feel like queens. Why do I say this? Yeah ladies intend to spend more than an hour and thirty minutes to get ready in other to glow up that night. Moving on with my interview journey, I approached this three wonderful ladies that gave what they had. “I think prom is not worth it and I’m not even attending prom. I’m willing to just spend $20 for that night,” from Elaih DeMeza.  Sam Campbell and Kayla Resnick from 11th grade together with Elaih Demeza all together said, “ No is not worth the money but we are not willing to spend more than $400.” The three ladies said, “Yes, it’s nice to see how people ask people out to prom and it’s is a senior memory, last dance of high school that is why is such a strong school tradition across the country.”

People have their likes and dislikes and I think some people do not have interest in prom. Seibah Sulemana expresses her view, “Prom is not worth it and I’m not attending my prom. I think it’s a waste of time and money you know. Is also not worth the money or anxieties. I think is a strong tradition in schools because some people think it’s a good way to end a high school year.” Don’t build the wrong impression though but she has her own reasons.

Moving on to the last group I had to interview, they also had different opinion with different reasons. Samara Williams an 11th grader said, “It should only be senior prom without involving juniors. I’m not attending. It’s worth it for the seniors but I’m just willing to spend $500. I say prom is worth the anxieties. Prom is the last time to have fun with your class before you go off into the real world.” Yes after that prom night it should be at the back of the mind you heading to the real world and can be called an adult. “Prom is worth it. Because it’s a day where people can get all cute and have fun with their friends but I do not plan attending in 11th grade but I will in 12th grade. $500 is my budget for prom,” said by Veronique Nzams who is in 10th grade.

Sometimes Prom is seen as a night where fairy tale actions takes place most times. Feeling like the handsome man of the night or the beautiful princess of that night dreaming of dancing with that one person you have had crush on throughout the years you were in school. Xavier Sewel from 10th grade being the last person for me to interview said, “Prom is worth it for seniors but not juniors unless they are invited by a senior. Prom is worth the money and I’m just going to spend $80. People wear good clothes ask someone they like, are friends with or dating to prom. Prom is a tradition because it’s the last big thing for seniors before graduation.”

Is prom worth it? People expressed their side of what they think about prom. It was kind of hilarious to hear some take o spending less than $50 for prom specially the ladies. Ladies are the main ones that mostly take school dance so important to attend and show up how they glow. But it has been known parents spend a lot of money for prom with an average of like $1500 at least. Prom is a beautiful night to end high school and I believe if you are a senior you have to attend but it does not mean spend huge amount of money for it. Just get yourself one nice cloth you have or by one at a low price.
