What unfairly gets tossed aside as a second choice school among many local students due to its extremely close location, Hood college is undoubtedly an exceptional school. Established in 1893 by The Church of Jesus Christ, Hood College was originally a women’s college. It wasn’t until 2003 when the school became a fully co-educational establishment, indistinguishable from the one students know presently.
Although it is reported on their official website that Hood offers “30 graduate majors, masters degrees in 20 professional areas, 13 post-baccalaureate certification programs in education, and 3 doctoral programs” the most popular major among enrolled students is business.
Aside from the countless educational opportunities, Hood also offers 23 total intercollegiate athletic programs, ranging from basketball to even esports. In order for athletic prospects to begin considering the world of college sports, students can choose to contact a coach directly from the Hood site. Alternatively, for fans of higher-level sports, schedules of various Hood varsity teams are also available on their website.
Otherwise, for students interested in applying to Hood College, it is possible to do so through their website as well as admission site Common App. Although certain application aspects such as standardized test scores and a personal essay are not required for this private school, it is always recommended to offer a leg up. While the early application deadline has already passed, applications for Fall 2025 are not due until July 28; admission deadline for Spring 2025 is Jan. 19.
While senior year can be stressful and challenging for some students, it’s always comforting to know there is light at the end of the tunnel, such as Hood College. Even just by quickly viewing their website, it’s apparent the inviting atmosphere that Hood creates. From sports to various clubs and events, all students can find a community and lifelong friends with ease.
