December 20, 1957, Elvis Aaron Presley received his draft to the United States Army where he would later serve two years.
Elvis was celebrating the upcoming holiday at his home in Memphis, Tennessee, then received his draft notice. He would later leave March 24, 1958 to start basic training. After finishing Basic Training, Elvis received news his mother was ill, so he took an emergency leave. His mother would later pass away in August of 1958.
For the next two years of his life Elvis served in Germany. He would share an off base house with his father and grandmother. After working all day Elvis would come home and have little parties. These parties are where he would meet 14-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu. Priscilla would later be married to Elvis in 1967 and welcome her and Elvis’s only child Lisa Marie Presley in 1968.
After his two years in the army, Elvis went back to what he did best, singing. He worked on more movies and sold more records. Behind the scenes wasn’t pretty. Elvis would get addicted to pills and go down his own very dark journey through life: getting a divorce, being stuck in the entertainment industry and so much more. On August 16, 1977 Elvis would then take his last breath after suffering from a heart attack.
