Lisa Jeanine Findley, 53, is being charged with alleged mail fraud and aggravated identity theft. Findley claimed that Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, borrowed $3.8 million from her firm; authorities say it was a fake company.
Findley claims Presley pledged the Graceland estate as collateral without repaying debt. Due to Presley’s passing in January of 2023, Findley alleged that since Presley’s dead she didn’t pay off the debt, therefore she was going for the house.
Findley was accused of forging Presley’s signature; the papers go all the way back to five years ago in 2018. During this case U.S. Attorney Kevin G. Ritz said, “As a Memphian, I know that Graceland is a national treasure.” Graceland isn’t just Elvis Presley’s house, it is something that over 600,000 people visit a year; it is a beloved place.
Presley’s oldest child Riley Keough is the official owner of the Graceland estate since the passing of her mother. After news broke Keough knew that she had to save Graceland; not only was it the house of her late grandfather Elvis, but it was her mother’s childhood home and a national landmark. Keough fought back against Findley and is the reason Graceland was saved.
Findley is pleading not guilty to both charges and is awaiting her hearing on Sept. 20.
