Thrifting

Thrifting

A huge trend that seems to have everyone getting vintage clothes and other items at a cheap price, is thrifting. While growing up we’re told that the clothes we don’t wear or can’t fit anymore should be donated but have you ever thought of doing the reverse; shopping for donated clothes. This is a great thing to do and it can save you money. Why struggle to find a reasonably priced 90s windbreaker when you can go to goodwill and get it for $7-$12. You can also get various other items such as vinyl records, books, and movies for a very cheap price.

The idea of thrifting is very much that one mans trash is another mans treasure. There are quite a few places to go thrifting in Frederick from Goodwill to Thrift Angel. This gives a lot of teens the chance to sometimes get high quality unique items at a low price. Its great to have more than one place to go because what works for me may not work for you, so having options gives everyone a way to find items that they want and may have been looking for. It also gives you a chance to find your style whether you’re 70s groovy, 80s retro, 90s grunge, or 2000 pop you’ll find something that speaks to you.

As High Schoolers we have many different responsibilities from car payments to maintaining a social life, so not having to spend a huge amount to look trendy is a huge asset. For many it’s about brands, but what they don’t know is that you can still find your favorite brands at goodwill for a fair price rather than spend a ridiculous amount of money. At the mall you can spend $65.00 and only get three items but at goodwill you could leave with ten to fifteen of the same items.  And if college wear is your style you can get an abundance of college apparel from practically anywhere in the world. Thrifting is all about getting more for your money which is necessary for those who work hard for their money and/or are on a budget. So whether or not thrifting is for you I believe that everyone should try it at least once.
