Culinary Corner: Chocolate Chip Scones

Ingredients:

  • 2 ¾ cups of flour
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ cup real butter (no margarine)
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup of milk

Recipe

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder together in a mixing bowl.
  2. Work in the butter with your hands until mixture is crumbly.
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  4. In a different mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla, and milk.
  5. Add liquid ingredients bowl to the dry ingredients bowl. Stir until everything has mixed together evenly and holds together.
  6. Scrape dough onto a baking sheet and divide in half. Form each half into a circle about 6” across.
  7. Brush the top of each circle with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  8. Use a knife to cut each circle into 6 wedges.
  9. Separate the wedges on the sheet so they don’t bake together.
  10. Place in the freezer for 30 minutes, uncovered. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  11. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
