Dr. Beck is a mathematics teacher; She is originally from Kansas, lived in California, and has worked in politics and government before. She teaches Geometry and Algebra. I’ve had her as a teacher twice. She taught me Algebra 1 during the 2nd semester of my freshman year and my first semester of sophomore year. She is currently teaching me Common Core Geometry.
Dr. Beck has a graduate degree and is a doctor of education, specializing in organizational leadership. She shared that the best part about being a teacher is “getting to interact with students and help them grow and understand new things about math and life.” She believes that the best qualities of a successful student in her class are perseverance and organization.
“I would share my most significant accomplishment was I’ve had some students who started the semester, or the year thinking that they couldn’t do math, and helping those students figure out math, and watching them become successful mathematicians” this was her most significant accomplishment. Watching her students being able to persevere and become successful at math has been Dr. Beck’s most significant accomplishment as a teacher.
“I changed jobs and stopped teaching for a while but missed it.” Even though she loves teaching since she enjoys learning and helping students learn, her dream job would’ve been in baseball, since her dad worked in baseball and loved baseball.
Something most people may not know about Dr. Beck are her interests outside of teaching “My dogs, going to the movies, and traveling when I have time”, and how her work life balance affect her overall mood and motivation at work, “I probably don’t have the best balance right now, but it motivates me to try to find ways to get things more balanced and to get things done more efficiently.”
