A tragic accident early Friday morning left one person dead after they were struck by a vehicle on MD-301/Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. According to Maryland State Police (MSP), the incident happened around 5:30 a.m. near the intersection with MD-38/Croom Road.
Investigators say the pedestrian was involved in a prior crash but then walked into the northbound lanes of the highway for reasons still unclear. The pedestrian was hit by a Ford which was traveling northbound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford was the only person in the vehicle and was not injured in the end. Not much has been said about this person since.
As of 9:16 a.m., all northbound lanes on Crain Highway have been blocked off, and traffic has been diverted to Heathermore Road. Officials are advising drivers to use alternate routes while the scene remains closed due to the accident. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing, and police have not yet released the pedestrian’s name, pending notification of their family.
