In the halls of learning, where dreams should soar,
A shadow lingers, leaving hearts feeling sore.
Fear grips tightly, like a relentless storm,
As we navigate a world that feels torn.
Lockdown drills become our somber routine,
A chilling reminder of what could have been.
Whispers of tragedy echo through the walls,
Leaving us vulnerable, our spirits fall in-
Sandy Hook Elementary School- Newtown, Connecticut. Armed 20-year-old man entered the school. Rifle locked and loaded. Twenty first-graders, six staff members dead. Their justice was his suicide.
In which they started the day with-
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
We should be focused on books and laughter,
But instead, we’re haunted by thoughts of disaster.
Every sound, every step, sets our hearts racing,
In a place meant for growth, fear is replaced.
We yearn for safety, for a sanctuary of peace,
Where learning and growth can finally release in-

With the weight of uncertainty hangs heavy in the air,
As we navigate a world that seems so unfair.
For change and justice, we’ll tirelessly fight.
We demand action, we demand a safer place,
Where school shootings are nothing but a distant trace.

5 student deaths in school in the United States during 2019–2020, including 23 homicides and one suicide. 11 homicides and one suicide, school violence occurred among school-age youth. 276 active shooter incidents in elementary and secondary schools in one decade, 157 in postsecondary institutions between the same decade.
So, I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice … for some.
