A 46-year-old woman was found dead Sunday morning in a New Jersey licensed vehicle, driver now facing serious murder charges in Frederick County.
Matthew Watley, 46-year-old truck driver from New Jersey, was seen to be breaking out of his vehicle around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday when deputies were called for a welfare check to the Costco Distribution Center in Monrovia, Maryland. The anonymous caller reported that Watley was under the influence. This pushed the decision of officers placing spike stop strips around the vehicle for the safety of everyone.
“He continued to be confrontational, and he refused to get out of the vehicle. So we tased him,” Frederick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Todd Wivell said, talking about Watley after he hit the spike strips trying to escape the area.
Watley was then detained after officers broke into the vehicle through the window when he continued to be confrontational and unresponsive.
Candice Thompson, a 46-year-old from New Jersey, was found dead by a deputy in the back of Watley’s truck. As this continues as an ongoing investigation, further details of the relationship between both Thompson and Watley are unknown.
Watley was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder. He is now being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center after he was first taken to Frederick Health Hospital for medical evaluation.
