Today Friday, Sept. 22, marks the 29th anniversary of the widely-known, widely-loved American NBC-TV show, “Friends.”
Beginning in 1994 and ending in 2004, “Friends” has wooed audiences throughout the globe with its witty humor and relatable situations.
Following six New York City based friends, Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Phoebe Buffay, Ross Geller, Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani, “Friends” 10 year run allowed audiences to identify with a number of characters and personalities.
As well as astonishing audience reviews, “Friends” gained the love and support of critics, winning six Emmy awards amidst their 10 seasons. Also, as documented on Britannica, “…from its second season until the end of its run maintained a top five or better Nielsen rating, hitting number one in its eighth season.”
Just as the characters on “Friends,” the actors have also remained close following the show’s end. Written on Entertainment Weekly, “…they often appeared in each other’s follow-up sitcoms.” The cast also reunited in 2021 for the TV special, “Friends: The Reunion.”
“Friends” also birthed the not-so-popular spinoff show, “Joey,” documenting Tribbiani’s adventures as an up-in-coming actor in Hollywood.
Still loved today, “Friends” has been a staple in American pop culture and will continue to be on its 29th anniversary. Happy 29th “Friends”!
