The Masters is regarded as one of the highest golf tournament’s in the world. Held in Augusta Georgia, golfers from all across the world take part in the opportunity to stand on the 18th green while putting on the notorious green jacket. The Masters marks the starting point for the golfing season, many hope to win the Grand Slam, a task that only Bobby Jones has completed back in 1930. Although the Masters wasn’t around at this point, Jones won four of the golfing majors in one year. A major is basically another golf tournament, its just been around longer and more highly admired by golfers. Golfers must win The Masters, The U.S. Open, The British Open, and the PGA Championship to be considered a Grand Slam winner. This is what makes the Masters great, if any golfer hopes to win the Grand Slam they must first win the Masters, adding to the pressure and excitement of the game.
This Thursday the Masters will begin and will end on Sunday. With much coverage of the tournament, many reporters try to give it there best shot at predicting the winner. With Jordan Speith winning the 2015 Masters, the young and already highly talented star at just the age of 22 is under the spotlight to possibly win it again. Speith won the Masters and U.S. Open last year, many thought Speith could be the next Jones, but unfortunately he fell short in the British Open. Reporters have given their potential winners for the 2016 Masters. Jason Day an Australian won the PGA championship last year and is said to be one to watch out for. Other potential winners include; Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler, and Louis Oosthuizen. Even with some golfers being favored more than others, golf is never certain. The game of golf can change so quick, and someone in 6th or 7th place can all of a sudden see themselves moving up on the scoreboard.
As we count down the days till the Masters, the anticipation grows forever more as coverage of the tournament appears more and more on sport channels. This 2016 Masters is sure to be a good one, with many up and coming young golfers the fight to the top will be tough, but the fight to win the Grand Slam will be even tougher.
