What does it take to graduate as a Titan?

A week ago the Tuscarora High School Class of 2018 held commencement ceremonies at Mt. St. Mary’s University. The event was joyous and dignified. There were smiles, and a few tears, as the graduates crossed the stage and turned their tassels marking the end of their public school journeys. But what exactly does that diploma represent? In a very literal sense, the recipients of the diplomas have met the standards set forth by the state of Maryland. But, we decided to look a little deeper into what that piece of paper really represents. What follows is a list of numbers some of which may surprise you…

4 years of high school which works out to 720 days total

480 hours of Math and English instruction

21,600 minutes of lunch

1,440 miles walked in the halls of THS (based on a 2 miles/day average)

192 hours of homework

18 hours of state mandated tests (HSA & PARCC)

1 huge commitment to earning a high school diploma

So, as you can see, there’s a very real reason to celebrate this accomplishment. To the graduating class of 2018 we congratulate you! You have earned your diplomas and so much more. We wish you all the best as you begin your post Tuscarora journeys. Good Luck Titans!!!
