How to Make Yourself a Morning Person
As high schoolers, most of us dread waking up early for school. But, having a good morning routine can lead to a better day overall. There are plenty of simple things you can implement to help make your mornings more enjoyable.
If your main struggle is the actual act of waking up, try setting your alarm for 15 minutes earlier, allowing yourself to gradually get out of bed. This can make waking up feel less abrupt, but be careful that you don’t go back to sleep. Once you’re out of bed, open your blinds and let natural light help keep you awake.
Get your body moving early in the day. Stretching in the mornings can help you feel more awake, and is another way to make the morning time more pleasant. If you have the time, take your dog on a short walk, or find a short at home workout to get you active.
A major key in having more enjoyable mornings is to eliminate some of the responsibilities that come with getting ready for the day. Packing your lunch the night before will save you time, and give you one less thing to worry about when you wake up. If you spend much of the morning contemplating outfits and trying on clothes, set out your outfit the night before. When you wake up, you can avoid stressing about what to wear and get dressed much quicker. If you have a few minutes to spare the night before, prepare for the day ahead of time by making a list of what you want to accomplish.
If you feel like you spend your mornings going through the motions, listen to music. Make a playlist of your favorite songs that will get you feeling good for the day. Try listening to a podcast that will put you in a positive mood. This will make your morning less lackluster, and stimulate your brain early on.
Being tired might be a result of dehydration or lack of food. Drinking a big glass of water when you wake up will hydrate your body and replenish your cells. Make sure to eat a nutritious breakfast that will properly fuel your body. Prepare a food that you enjoy eating, and it will give you something to look forward to when getting out of bed.
All of these tips are easy ways to help you change your attitude towards mornings. Determine what helps start your day off right, and stick to a routine that works for you. You might even find yourself looking forward to waking up and performing better in your morning classes.
