ESSR Presents to the ESSL!
January 19, 2018
This past Friday the students in Mrs. Geerlings’ ESSR class visited the Earth Space and Science Lab once again! Though, when the band of students returned to the lab, they had their term-long research projects besides them.
Over the course of the last term, they managed to develop a research question and delve into the world that revolved around their projects. From carbon dioxide levels to sea turtles, the amount of information these projects covered were endless, simply to prove that there is even a chance of a correlation between their two variables. Each project gained information from two spheres of research- such as having one factor from the cryosphere and the other from the heliosphere. After developing all the aspects of a real research paper with elements like a methods section and an abstract, they began to construct their boards into a delightful display of the finished result of their research.
Almost immediately after set-up, a flood of local scientists poured into the room and began to ask the students about their projects. While nerves may have been high, things went smoothly! Their presentations were beyond brilliant and even Mrs. Geerlings said that she was proud of the bunch and she was happy with how well they did.
But even so, the scientist managed to pick the top five out of the class. It was a close call, with a few projects only left out by one or two points, but the five students who presented and got the most points will continue and be prepared for next Monday when they present at the NASA Goddard center.
Good luck!
