Boys and Girls Cross Country teams are headed to States!!!!

For the first time in Tuscarora High history, both the boys and girls Cross Country teams have qualified for States! While the boys teams have qualified many times over the years, the girls team qualified for the first time last season, and this year both teams have made it to the statewide finals which will feature teams from 45 Maryland high schools. We reached out to Coach Babb for a little insight into the sport as well as his thoughts on the teams’ chances and here’s what he had to say:

“We’re hoping for a top 15 finish for the girls and a top 12 for the boys, we also have some strong individual competitors who are looking for top 15-20 finishes.”

Coach Babb explained the team scoring to us “The way the team scoring works is as follows: Seven students run and the best five count towards the team score, whatever place one gets translates into points which are added together for a composite team score. The lower the score the higher the team places”

When asked about his take on the teams’ success Coach Babb said “It feels great for them to perform this well at a big meet. We knew we had a high quality team all season based on their summer running (5 of our runners turned in running logs with mileage of over 300 miles), work ethic, and dedication. We are in a strong running county and get to see great competition all the time. We emphasize each individual improving regardless of whether they’re on JV or Varsity. Every single one of these runners had at least one bad race this year, but each have bounced back. That’s how you know you have a quality athlete when he or she reacts to adversity”

So let’s all wish these athletes a hearty congratulations and best wishes for success at the state level of competition!

One team, one Titan!!!
