Chipotle Saves the Bay
May 17, 2017
On Thursday May 19, 2017 Chipotle is having a fundraiser to raise money to help save the bay! The money from this fundraiser will go towards funds to assist in cleaning the bay. The Chesapeake Bay is an estuary aka a body of water formed where freshwater from rivers and streams flows into the ocean, mixing with sea water, creating brackish water.
The Bay has many issues that affect its health. Just a few are: agriculture, air pollution, chemical contamination, dead zones, climate change, fisheries, habitat degradation, land use, natural gas drilling, polluted run off and sewage and septic systems. The Chesapeake Bay watershed is an integral part to the human health and wealth of 18 million people through providing sources of water and a seafood industry that sustains families and ways of life.
The Chesapeake Bay foundation was founded in 1967 and is the largest independent conservation organization dedicated solely to saving the Bay. The famous motto “Save the Bay” is a rallying cry for pollution reduction through the Chesapeake’s six-state, 64,000 square mile watershed, which is home to more than 17 million people and 3,000 species of plants and animals.
By simply going in and buying food at Chipotle, you can assist in Saving the Bay.
