Sister Act- Inside Scoop

Samantha Rearick, Writer

This past weekend the performance Sister Act was brought to our Titan Stage with much success, and as someone who contributed to this production, I am willing to provide an inside scoop of the action.

To begin, rehearsals started directly after school and continued until 5:30 pm every day of the week, with an occasional mandatory rehearsal on Saturday once a month or so that goes on from 9 am to 4 pm. Though the final week before the performance dates (Also known as Tech Week) rehearsals would start directly after school and continue until around 9:30 pm- a good 7 hours of running through the entire show twice. With the first week of rehearsals starting in January and the show dates set on April 6, 7, and 8th, we had a little less than four months to get the act together.

A typical rehearsal day for the Actors would be working on their vocals, choreography, and dialogue / lines of their character. The Techies (Technological workers) would be contributing to whatever job they were assigned as weather it was running crew, soundboard, projections, stage manager, prop manager, or set design. For example my job for this show was working the stage lights, so for every new scene the actors would practice I was in charge of setting the lighting for that specific scene and enter into the system the set of lights would come up at certain cues within that scene.

Despite all of the tough rehearsal days and seemingly endless hours of practicing over and over again- it truly does pay off in the end to realize what everyone has been working on to accomplish. Being a part of a production such as Sister Act was an amazing experience to get to know everyone involved more than them just being a familiar face in the halls of Tuscarora. Not just this, but we all work together to do what we love, which is acting. Last, but certainly not least, I want to give a huge shout out to Mrs. Ion for helping all the actors raise their voices, Mr. Ion for hand making each fantastic costume used by the actors, Mrs. Kristen for every bit of choreography she had created for the dancers, Mr. Karos and the pit for putting on an amazing musical performance to accompany the actor’s songs, and of course Mrs. Delucchi for bringing the show to life with all of her work as our director.
