Things To Do When You’re Snowed In

Marissa Pycha and Cloe Hartley

With a big snow storm in the forecast, you may have a few free days. Here are some things you can do to fill your time while you’re stuck inside.

1. Catch up on school work

Whether you’re making up late work or getting a head start on homework, snow days are the perfect time to be productive. As much as you want to stay in bed all day when school is cancelled, it will probably be easier to get work done because you won’t be busy with other things.

2. Clean up

During the school year it’s a struggle to stay organized when all you want to do is relax on the weekends. So take an hour and clean up your room because having a clean room can set you up for a better day.

3. Have a movie marathon

There is nothing better than snuggling up on the couch when it’s cold outside. Take this time to unwind and watch a few movies. Or, you could binge watch your favorite Netflix series. If you’re looking to start a new show, Stranger Things and Shameless are both popular choices.

4. Bake a treat

To go with your movie, make a cup of hot chocolate or a batch of cookies. If your parents usually cook dinner, you could even cook it yourself. Not only will this eat up some of your time, but home cooked foods will substitute your normal bland school lunch.

5. Take a nap

Between studying for tests, sports and homework, the average kid doesn’t get enough sleep. On a snow day take advantage of the free time and catch up on your sleep. When you go back to school, you’ll be well rested and ready to start fresh.

6. Hang out with friends

Although you may not be able to drive to a friends house, if any of your friends live nearby, you can always walk to their house. Being stuck in the house alone all day can be lonely but having a friend to hang out with can make the day more fun.

7. Do generic snow activities

You may feel like a little kid again if you’re outside having fun in the snow. But, it can be fun to go out and build a snowman or sled, especially with younger siblings. If you have a dog, you can play with them outside, because most dogs tend to love snow.

8. Have a spa day

One of the best ways to spend time is by pampering yourself. Take a hot bath or do a face mask. There are plenty of recipes online for masks, bath salts, and other things you never knew you could do yourself.
