The Finals are set
June 2, 2016
The matchup for the 2015-2016 NBA Finals is set and it is the exact same thing as the year before. The Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers will faceoff for the second straight year. The one difference this year is that its expected to be a much closer matchup than the year before. This year, both teams are a lot better and have a lot more to lose. LeBron James could be looking at a 2-5 Finals record which would demonize his legacy while Golden State needs to top off their record setting 73-9 season with a championship. Both teams have a lot on the table which makes this years Finals a must watch.
Although Golden State had arguably the best regular season ever, they struggled in the first rounds of the playoffs and almost got eliminated by the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder managed to gain a 3-2 series lead over the Warriors after 3 remarkable games by Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Unfortunately, games 6 and 7 were not the same for the Thunder as Golden State came back from 15 point deficits in both games to secure both victories and advance to their second straight Finals.
This matchup should be intriguing as both teams have All Stars all over the floor. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green lead the Warriors as LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love lead the Cavaliers. Golden State’s lethal shooting ability vs. Cleveland’s all around speed and power should most likely take this series to a game 7. Due to Golden State beating Cleveland last year in the Finals, this year will be a great opportunity for the Cavs to bounce back and get Cleveland it’s first pro sports championship in decades.
