One more time for the Mamba

Eric Sullivan, Writer

Kobe Bryant is one of the most decorated and talented basketball players of all time. No one thought they could picture the end of his star stellar career, but this Wednesday that day will finally come. Kobe will be walking away from the game after twenty seasons with L.A, the game will be at the Staples Center this Wednesday against the Utah Jazz. Kobe will say farewell to arguably the best career in NBA history and begin his post playing chapter. It is still unknown about what exactly he will do, but he first needs to lose his competitive edge if he is indeed set to hang it up for good.

Bryant will unfortunately not be going out on top and riding off into the sunset as many people would have liked to have seen. However, with 5 NBA titles and an MVP award in 2008, the ride off doesn’t seem as sad for the future hall of famer. After completing a farewell tour in each NBA city, Kobe played his final away game in OKC last night against the Thunder. When being introduced with the starting lineup the Thunder fans erupted showing their appreciation for a living legend. This was not surprising due to the reaction being similar basically everywhere else that he went this year.

Courtside seats for Kobe’s final game are set between 25 and 30 thousand dollars with the cheapest tickets ranging anywhere between 2 and 3 thousand dollars. To an average person these prices seem ridiculous, however when it comes to someone as special to the game as Kobe Bryant, it is pretty reasonable. Many legends such as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Shaquille O’Neal are expected to be in attendance with many other household names from basketball and other major sports. The retirement of Kobe may not be at the best time and it may be during one of the worst seasons in Lakers history however, the farewell to Kobe Bryant should be nothing short of legendary. The NBA and the sports world in general will definitely miss the “Mamba” Kobe Bryant.
