eSports: Professional Gaming at its Finest

For most people, gaming has always been a hobby to relieve stress or and have fun alone, or with friends. Gaming is one of many sources of entertainment, however, there is so much more to just casual gaming. There is an entire scene of professional gaming out there for newbies to plug their controllers and keyboards into (link).
Thanks to online streaming sites like twitch and youtube, esports has had a huge increase in popularity. Streaming sites allows anyone with access to the internet to watch tournaments and competitions from the comfort of their phone or computer screen. Popular games with huge pools of players like Dota 2, Starcraft, and Super Smash Bros hold competitions where only the best of the best can compete for cash prizes or a nifty trophy for bragging rights. There are esports teams all over the world competing to be the very best. North America is home to teams like Cloud 9 and Team Curse. Whereas other countries also have teams of their own that compete in their respective country and also in world championships (link) .
Esports has become so popular that there are now some colleges that give out athletic scholarships for students who compete in games like League of Legend, StarCraft 2 and Halo. Gaming Clubs filled with a passionate community for gaming has begun to form in many colleges over the country. Hartford and Florida universities have developed their own esports college teams on campus that compete in tournaments, some tournaments even offer intuition money worth several years (link).
