Forensic Science: a new and interesting elective at THS!

“On the first day of class, I walked in and there was a skeleton dressed in Tuscarora clothes, lying face down in a pile of fake blood. I knew right then that this would be an awesome class.” Senior, Will Broberg said when asked about his second block class.

This year Tuscarora is offering a brand new science class, called Forensic science. Many people would refer to it as a class where students can learn about the science that goes into solving crimes. Although TV shows such as Law and Order and CSI have interesting plots, when asked, students said that there is so much more that goes into solving a crime.

Forensic science is unique in the way that there is no textbook and no tests. This turns a lot of students on to the class, though there is plenty of work involved. The week begins with a crime scene, and then teams are assembled to solve the crime. At the end of each week, the groups present what they have found; such as power points about patterns or videos about different types of evidence. Each day you also have to record what you did in a daily log.

Many kids in the forensic science classes were asked what types of people should take the class and a majority of students said anyone interested in puzzle-solving, is curious, or enjoys science should check out this class. If this sounds like you, the course will be offered again next semester.
