K-pop group GFRIEND has officially reunited, thrilling fans as they commemorate their 10th debut anniversary with the pre-release of a new single, “Season of Memories,” ahead of their highly anticipated reunion album released on Jan. 13. This return follows the group’s separation in May 2021.
The track, described as a heartfelt song to their fans, affectionately known as Buddys, features lyrics that reflect on the group’s journey together. In a recent statement, GFRIEND expressed, “This song is a gift to our official fandom. The lyrics reflect our journey and are meant to connect deeply with those who have supported us.”
Accompanying the single, a mood film showcases treasured moments from the group’s past, including nostalgic footage of their time together. The emotions evoked in the song, particularly in the chorus sung by members Yuju and Eunha, resonate with fans: “I’ve been waiting for you at any moment / I’ll choose you till the end.”
In celebration of this significant milestone, the K-pop girl group will commence a “Season of Memories” Asia tour beginning Jan. 17 with a three-night concert residency at Seoul’s Olympic Hall. Following the Seoul performances, they will travel to Osaka, Yokohama, Hong Kong and Taipei, further reaching fans across the continent.
GFRIEND first captivated audiences in 2015 with their debut single “Glass Bead,” quickly securing their place as one of the leading third-generation K-pop groups through chart-topping hits such as “Rough” and “Navillera.” Despite their abrupt separation, the members have successfully pursued solo careers, with Sowon transitioning into acting, Yuju and Yerin with solo music releases and SinB, Eunha and Umji forming the trio VIVIZ. There is a common misconception that they had disbanded in May of 2021, but the members clear this up explicitly stating, “Many articles used the word ‘disbandment,’ so many people think we disbanded, but we didn’t disband. It was a contract expiration.”
The group debuted their reunion live during the 39th Golden Disc Awards, where their performance of “Season of Memories” got immediate attention, gaining over a million views within 24 hours on YouTube. As the group prepares to release their album, fans eagerly anticipate what promises to be an unforgettable reunion of the beloved members in GFRIEND.
