This week at Tuscarora High School, our community is embracing the holiday cheer with a festive and fun Spirit Week! Each day features a unique theme for students and staff to enjoy as we count down the days to winter break. Here’s a look at the highlights so far:
Monday kicked off with Winter PJ’s, and students embraced the cozy vibes. Aaliyah Goode shared that wearing pajamas to school made her feel more relaxed, while Sydney Benefield said it made her feel more comfortable. When asked about their favorite Spirit Week themes, Goode revealed her excitement for Twin Day, saying, “I can match with my friends,” and Benefield pointed to Grinch Day because she has Grinch slippers. Others, like Kyan Oginga and Julia Morales, said Pajama Day was their top pick, while Kierra Smallwood looked forward to White Out.
On Tuesday’s Grinch Out, the hallways were sprinkled with green outfits and festive touches inspired by the classic Dr. Seuss tale. Diane Cooper said her Grinch-inspired outfit was simply “what I could find,” while an anonymous student shared that their cupcakes served as the inspiration for their Whoville look. When asked whether the Grinch theme encouraged creativity, opinions were mixed. “Kinda,” said one student, while Diane Cooper remarked, “Those that I have seen, yes, but I have not seen a lot of Grinch participation today.”
Wednesday’s White Out brought a snowstorm of creativity to the halls of Tuscarora High School, as students and staff dressed in head to toe white. Jason Lininger shared, “I was told last night that I had to wear all white today, so I went to Dick’s and bought a white sweatshirt.” Aicha D’none added, “I went in my closet and it was there and got it.” While Lininger noted a standout outfit featuring a big white church hat, Aicha D’none said, “I haven’t seen anything creative.”
Thursday’s Twin/Triplet Day brought students together through coordinated outfits, highlighting friendships and connections. Jasmine Fultz teamed up with her boyfriend, saying, “I think it shows people the actual connection between friends, including the similarities they have with each other.” This day emphasized how matching outfits can strengthen bonds and create lasting memories among peers.
Friday’s Holiday Sweater Day added a festive touch to Spirit Week as students and staff donned cheerful and creative holiday sweaters. Mrs. Coulehan shared the humorous backstory behind her sweater, saying, “I got the sweater on Temu and thought it was a knitted sweater, but it turns out it was a shirt with a sweater printed on it.” When asked about her preference, she said she enjoys humorous sweaters over traditional ones. For future Spirit Week themes, Mrs. Coulehan suggested ideas like teachers twinning with students or a competition for the most over-the-top holiday outfit.
Spirit Week at Tuscarora High School brought the community together through creativity, connection, and school pride. From lighthearted themes to bold outfits, each day showcased the unique spirit that makes Tuscarora special. As the week ends, the shared laughter and memories remind us of the strength in unity and the importance of celebrating as a school family.
