There are hundreds of Christmas movies for the season with new movies being released every year. Disney has released a number of Christmas movies over the years, including “Prep & Landing”, which was released in 2009.
“Prep & Landing” is a short 22 minute movie that follows two of Santa’s elves, Wayne and Lanny. In “Prep & Landing” there are various different jobs for elves, one of which is to go to the child’s house on Christmas Eve to help prepare for Santa’s landing. To Wayne Christmas is just a job in which he feels his efforts don’t matter as he hasn’t moved up to a
better job after a couple hundred years. Wayne’s attitude towards Christmas only worsens when his old work partner gets the promotion he wanted instead of him. After his old work partner is promoted, he’s paired up with a rookie elf named Lanny. Unlike Wayne, Lanny is ecstatic to be a prep and landing elf and is bubbling with holiday spirit.
Throughout the movie it switches between Wayne and Lanny, watching how the two behave during the job. Lanny, despite making several mistakes, tries his best to help prepare for Santa’s arrival on his own, while Wayne lazes around and watches T.V. the whole time. Due to Lanny’s inexperience and countless mistakes, Wayne eventually has to help in order for Santa to have a successful landing. As Wayne is forced to help, he rekindles his love for both Christmas and his job.
“Prep & Landing” is different from many other Christmas movies as it is from the perspective of the elves and how they prepare for Christmas. Despite being a short movie, the characters all have their own personalities, even the reindeer. It’s a short, funny film, exploring the perspective of Santa’s elves. There are several other “Prep & Landing” movies that further expand upon the universe and society, but the first, original, will always be a classic.
“Prep & Landing” is an underrated movie, having only 4,168 reviews on IMDb with 7.6/10 stars. Syler Lee, a reviewer who gave the movie a 5/5 stars stated, “[I] love it! It’s an awesome movie to watch with your friends and family.” As someone who is personally a huge fan of the movie, it’s a simple yet funny movie to watch. It is clear to see that many of those who have stumbled across “Prep & Landing” have, like me, thoroughly enjoyed it. If you’re free this break, I suggest you set aside some time to watch one of the most underrated Christmas specials Disney has made.
