“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” was recently released as of Sept. 6 as the sequel to the classic “Beetlejuice” released in 1988. Regardless of what reviews are coming out about the sequel the original “Beetlejuice” will always be considered one of Tim Burton’s most popular movies.
The movie starts out with a couple, Barbara and Adam Maitland, figuring out that they’re dead. Shortly after, the Deetz family moves in, Delia, Charles and their daughter Lydia. The Maitlands are not happy with the fact that this new family has moved into their home, especially as Delia gives the house a makeover and completely redoes their home. In a attempt to save their home the Maitlands try to scare them out. Despite their failures, their attempts captured the attention of Beetleguese, who offered to help scare the Deetz away. His offered help quickly shows to become dangerous for both the Maitlands and Lydia.
What makes “Beetlejuice” such a beloved and popular movie is the overall style of the movie. Burton is known for being a freaky and creepy ghost. His creativity is shown in the different character designs and settings as he explores the idea of the undead. In the movie, the Maitlands are recently deceased and you watch as they navigate their new life as ghosts, meeting all the weird ghosts while navigating all the abstract rules to being dead. The movie’s weirdness is expressed in a way that takes the audience along with the Maitlands, feeling as though you are actually there.
“Beetlejuice” is also widely loved for its comedy, especially Beetleguese himself. Beetleguese is an eccentric ghost with green hair and rotten teeth who wears his iconic black and white striped suit. What makes Beetleguese such a funny character is his randomness. Beetleguese is described as an unstable and dangerous individual and it’s clearly shown through Michael Keaton’s incredible acting and Beetleguese’s eccentric behavior.
Having an overall rating of four stars, “Beetlejuice” is a movie adored by many. Leaving a five star review, Joe Rickerby said, “I’ve seen this comedy horror film loads of times and it’s really good and funny! Its acting is brilliant, especially from Michael Keaton and Alec Baldwin. I’m sure Tim Burton did a great job. I’d say he’s a total genius.” Due to the large fanbase “Beetlejuice” has acquired, it will always remain one of Burton’s most popular and loved movies.
