World Cup Final: France V. Argentina
December 16, 2022
After almost a month since the opening match of the 2022 World Cup the final has been decided the defending champion France, will be taking on Argentina on December 18th. Both teams were ranked very high by Fifa at 3rd for Argentina and 4th for France. France and Argentina were only ranked below Belgium at 2nd and Brazil at 1st. But instead Argentina and France have played incredibly well to make it this far, both Lionel Messi (Argentina) and Kylian Mbappé (France) are neck and neck for having the most goals and assists in this world cup. Currently Messi and Mbappé are tied for first place at 5 goals each whilst their teammates Julian Alvarez (Argentina) and Olivier Giroud (France) are tied for second place for most goals. Right now Messi has the edge over Mbappé as Messi has 3 assists to Mbappé’s two. Giroud or Alvarez however have no assists to compete with their teammates. But Antoine Griezmann (France) is tied with Messi on assists. During the semi-final matches both teams were able to shut out their opponent, France won 2-0 while Argentina won 3-0. Something else to take note of is how Messi is known as one of the greatest players of all time, arguably the greatest of all time but he has not won a World Cup. This is most likely going to be his last chance to win a World Cup. Simultaneously if France wins they will be the third team to win back to back world cups. If France does in fact win then it will solidify Mbappé’s place as one of the greatest players of the new era. This game holds a lot for both teams as a win here has an extra level of importance for not only the country but the players as well.
