URBANA, MD — Griffin Cansler (11) knows how unique the Tuscarora golf team is this season. “I think it’s the fact that we make a notoriously individual sport a team effort. We score on our own but we collect them from everyone to win.” Cansler stated.

The team opened its season on August 23 against defending state champions Urbana High, losing by a mere 15 shots. Cansler’s low round of (+2) 38 kept the Titans in the match, unfortunately, the rest of the experienced Titans golf team struggled in their season opener. Cansler followed up his strong performance last week with another excellent (+4) 40 this past Tuesday against Walkersville; however, this time, his teammates followed suit with additional excellent play. The Titans beat a rebuilding Walkersville High School golf program with relative ease, concluding with a final score of 175-207.

This Titans golf team has been on the rise over the last three seasons. The team had especially large improvements last season, placing fourth at the county championship and third at the 3A/4A district championship. Golfers like Cansler, Cam Vachon (10) and others have matured into a talented roster that has some high goals for this season. Vachon remarked after some consideration, “Our team has set high goals for ourselves. We feel we as a group can send a full team to states for the first time in school history.”.

The Titans next match is the CMC Championship at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown, MD, where Cansler, Vachon, and other Titan golfers hope to score well and hoist their first CMC Championship plaque next Thursday.
