Several Titan Sports Teams Advance to States!!!

The time is here. The moment that every player and coach has worked for all season has begun. A state title! This past week, various Titan sports teams have competed within the region for a chance to raise the banner at the end. Every team should be honored and congratulated for their efforts, not only this week but all year. Furthermore, the likes of boys soccer, field hockey, and cross country have increased their chances at a state title by advancing out of the region!

Boys soccer battled throughout the season to have the opportunity to control their destiny. The boys went 14-0-1 while capturing the county championship! With so much success, the boys earned themselves a first-round bye which meant they had to beat two teams to win the region. The boys did not falter and captured a regional championship against Oakdale. Junior captain Tony Lombardi has some thoughts about the team’s chances at bringing home a state title. “We are very confident going into our next game and the potential following two games. We’ve been working extremely hard during training and it’s been showing on the field so we just want to carry the momentum in these final stretches of the state tournament.”

Field hockey was no slouch this year either. They, too, were able to secure the regional championship against Frederick. This was field hockey’s first-ever regional championship. With this win, field hockey advanced to 9-4 on the year. Junior Caylen Vachon had some words of excitement to share about the chances field hockey has at states. “I feel like we have a pretty good shot. If we come out and give it our best effort, I believe that we can win.”

Cross Country put forth a valiant effort throughout the season to get to this point. The work that each runner has shown at every single meet has prepared them for a state title run. Both the boys and girls teams placed in the top 50% at the regional final, earning a spot to advance to states. Senior runner Luke Bernota shared his positive outlook on Tuscarora’s chances at bringing home a state championship. “I believe that we are the underdogs going in. However, anything can happen on any given day. If everyone brings the effort that they have had all season, then I think that we have a shot at winning states.”

The idea that Tuscarora has multiple sports teams with a chance to win a state title is beyond exciting. The effort on and off the field has powered each team to this point in the season. The road to a state title starts today, November 5th, with field hockey hosting Westminster at 3:30. Boys soccer will continue their pursuit of a state championship tomorrow, November 6th, at 5:00 pm at Middletown high school against Atholton. Cross Country doesn’t compete until Saturday, November 13th at Hereford high school, time to be announced. Football will begin their playoff run with a 7:00 pm start at Urbana tonight. Please go out and support the Titan teams during their pursuit of a state title!
